Remove citation marks from AI answers
AI answers often keep their citation markup when copied: strange brackets, numbers and tracking tags. Paste the answer and they are removed, with the spacing around them repaired.
How to use the citation remover
- Copy the answer from ChatGPT, Gemini, Copilot or Perplexity.
- Paste it on the left: citation leftovers are struck through in red.
- Turn off [1] references if your text uses numbered references on purpose.
- Copy the clean text as Markdown, plain text or formatted text.
What it fixes
- ChatGPT source markers and contentReference leftovers removed
- Gemini [cite_start] and [cite: 1] markers removed
- Numbered references like [1] or [2, 3] removed (optional)
- utm_source=chatgpt.com and similar tags removed from links
About the citation remover
Spacing repaired
Removing a marker can leave a double space or a space before a full stop. The cleaner closes those gaps, so sentences read naturally.
Links kept, tracking dropped
Links stay where they are; only the tag that tells a site the visitor came from an AI chat is removed.
Frequently asked questions
- Does it remove real references?
- It removes citation markers, not the sources. If your text needs numbered references, turn off the [1] references option.
- Is code changed?
- No. Code blocks and inline code are protected, so something like list[1] stays.
- Is my text uploaded?
- No. It is cleaned in your browser.
