JSON Minifier
Strip the spaces and line breaks out of JSON to make it as small as possible. The status bar shows how much smaller it got. The data itself stays exactly the same.
How to use the JSON minifier
- Paste formatted JSON or drop a .json file on the editor.
- The minified JSON appears on the right, on a single line.
- Check the saving in the status bar.
- Copy it, or download it as a .json file.
What you get
- Every value and number exactly as written
- Key order
- Spaces inside strings, which are part of the data
- Validation: invalid JSON is reported, not mangled
About the JSON minifier
When to minify
Minified JSON is smaller to send and store: request bodies, environment variables, embedded config and test fixtures. For reading and editing, use the formatter instead.
Safe minification
The JSON is parsed first, so only whitespace between tokens is removed. Text inside strings is never touched, and invalid JSON is reported instead of being half-minified.
Frequently asked questions
- How much smaller will my JSON get?
- Typically 20 to 40 percent for indented JSON. The exact saving is shown in the status bar.
- Can I turn minified JSON back into readable JSON?
- Yes. Switch to Format, or use the JSON formatter page, to indent it again.
- Is this the same as compressing with gzip?
- No. Minifying only removes whitespace and the result is still JSON. Servers usually gzip on top of that when sending it.
