Convert YAML to JSON

Paste YAML and get formatted JSON as you type. Anchors and aliases are expanded, several documents become a JSON array, and errors show the line where the YAML went wrong.

How to use the YAML to JSON converter

  1. Paste YAML or drop a .yaml or .yml file on the editor.
  2. Formatted JSON appears on the right.
  3. Pick the indentation and sort keys if you like.
  4. Copy it, or download it as a .json file.

What you get

  • Nesting, lists and key order
  • Anchors and aliases, expanded into full values
  • Several documents separated by --- as a JSON array
  • Large integers without rounding

About the YAML to JSON converter

YAML errors made readable

Indentation mistakes are the classic YAML problem. When the YAML cannot be read, you see the line it failed on and a short description, and the line is marked in the editor.

Uses a full YAML parser

The converter uses the open-source yaml library, which follows the YAML 1.2 specification, so block scalars, flow style, anchors and comments are all understood.

Frequently asked questions

What happens to YAML comments?
JSON has no comments, so they are dropped. The data is converted in full.
What about several documents in one file?
A file with several documents separated by --- becomes a JSON array with one item per document.
Is my YAML uploaded?
No. The conversion runs in your browser, which matters for files with secrets or internal hostnames.
