About the JSON to YAML converter

Safe quoting

Values such as "yes", "off", "1.0" or "0123" would change meaning in YAML if left bare. The converter quotes them, so the YAML reads back as the same data.

Made for config files

JSON is common in APIs and YAML is common in configuration. Converting lets you paste an API response or a generated manifest into a YAML file without retyping it.

Frequently asked questions

Is YAML a superset of JSON?
Almost. Nearly any JSON document is also valid YAML, but YAML's indented style is easier to read and edit, which is why config files prefer it.
Can I convert YAML back to JSON?
Yes. Use the YAML to JSON converter, or press Use as input on the output to switch direction.
Does it support anchors and aliases?
Repeated objects are written out in full rather than as anchors, so the YAML is simple and portable.
